K. Chandrasekhar Rao demands centre to confer Bharat Ratna to Late Narasimha Rao

On Tuesday, Telangana minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said that the state cabinet and legislature will pass a resolution to give the Bharat Ratna award to former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. The Chief Minister said that he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make the request. Rao recently decided to organize Narasimha Rao's centenary celebrations on a grand scale. Today, he unveiled plans for the ceremony.

PV was a leader on whom the country should be proud. He changed the fate of the country for the better. PV is fully qualified to receive the Bharat Ratna Award, the highest civilian award instituted by the Center, an official release quoted the Chief Minister as saying.

Narasimha Rao was an active activist during the Indian independence movement and joined the Congress party after independence. After joining politics, Rao first took charge of many important departments in Andhra Pradesh and later in the Central Government. He was the Law and Information Minister in the Government of Andhra Pradesh from 1962 to 64, Law and Law Minister from 1964 to 67, Health and Medical Minister in 1967 and Education Minister from 1968 to 1971. Narasimha Rao was also the Chief Minister of the state of Andhra Pradesh from 1971 to 1973. He was a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 1957 to 1977 and Lok Sabha from 1977 to 1984 and was elected to the eighth Lok Sabha from Ramtek seat in December 1984.
