Kolkatta: Sunil Kanti Roy, the Managing Director of Peerless Group, a diversified conglomerate located in Kolkata, died in a hospital here, according to family sources. His was 78. Family souce said Roy was suffering from old age-related ailments.  

After his health deteriorated, he was placed on ventilation on Saturday, May 9, 2022. On Sunday night, he passed away. He is survived by wife, son, daughter, and two grandchildren.

After his elder brother, B.K. Roy, died in 1985, Roy, a Padma Shri laureate, took over the responsibilities of the corporation from him.

"Deeply heartbroken by the loss of Padma Shri, Sunil Kanti Roy, ace entrepreneur & managing director of Peerless Group," Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim said. His death signals the end of an era in Bengali commerce. My heartfelt condolences go out to his friends and family. May his soul rest in peace."
