Legendary footballer Pele is going to have to spend a few more days in the hospital due to a urinary infection. Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo said on Monday that 81-year-old Pele was admitted to the hospital on February 13 to continue treatment for intestinal cancer, but doctors later found that he was suffering from the infection.
The hospital has also said that "his condition is stable and he may be discharged from the hospital in the next few days." During a routine check-up in August last year, the news of Pele's stomach cancer was also reported after which he underwent chemotherapy. He had to stay in the hospital for about a month. During Pele's tenure, Brazil won the World Cup in 1958, 1962 and 1970. He scored 77 goals in 92 matches, a record for Brazil.
Pele is said to be one of the world's greatest footballers of all time. The former player from Santos, New York Cosmos and Brazil has faced several health problems in recent years. This includes hip surgery, which causes them to have frequent pain and difficulty in walking.
Pele's real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento. He has been the only player in history to have won three World Cups (1958, 1962 and 1970). He was also admitted to the hospital in September last year. Pele is a fan of current-day footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. In both of these, he has called Messi better at times.
