Cognizable offenses are those in which the police can arrest someone without a warrant.

MNS workers have been detained by the police at many places after Raj Thackeray warned of reading Hanuman Chalisa in protest against Ajan. MNS President Raj Thackeray's troubles escalated when the Aurangabad police filed a case against him two days ago for his "inflammatory" speech about loudspeakers over mosques.
