New Delhi: On Monday, Petrol and diesel prices remain unchanged across the major cities. In national capital Delhi, a litre of petrol costs Rs 72.71 while diesel is retailing at Rs 67.06 a litre, no change compared with Sunday’s price. In Kolkata, citizens have to pay Rs 74.79 for a litre of petrol while diesel costs Rs 68.85 per litre, as per data available with Indian Oil Corp website. Similarly, in Mumbai, petrol costs Rs 78.33 per litre and diesel costs Rs 70.25 per litre, no change in prices compared with yesterday’s rates. In Chennai, petrol is retailing at Rs 75.52 per litre and diesel can be availed at Rs 70.87 a litre, no rate revision as against Sunday’s price.

And in Noida also, petrol price remained unchanged at Rs 72.12 and diesel price stood at Rs 66.08. In Gurugram, petrol, diesel prices remained stagnant at Rs 72.66 and Rs 66.19 respectively. The retail petrol and diesel prices in Delhi are the cheapest among all metros and most state capitals due to lower taxes. Since the starting of this year, the price of petrol was raised by about Rs 4 a litre and that of diesel by about Rs 5 a litre.

Here it is worth mentioning is that the retail fuel price in the country is dependent on the global crude prices and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate as India imports 80 per cent of its crude requirements. In the international oil market, crude prices fell on Monday amid concerns that economic slump may negatively impact fuel consumption. International Brent crude futures were at trading USD 67.01 per barrel, down 55 1ents, or 0.2 per cent, from their last close.
