New Delhi: On Tuesday, Petrol, diesel prices were cut and after today's price revision, petrol became cheaper by 14-16 paise across major cities of the country while diesel became cheaper by 10-11 paise per litre. In the national capital Delhi, petrol is sold at Rs 70.44 today as against Rs 70.59 yesterday and diesel is sold at Rs 65.51 as compared to Rs 65.61 on Monday.

While in Mumbai, the retail prices of petrol and diesel are Rs 76.08 a litre and Rs 68.59 a litre respectively, according to data available on Indian Oil Corporation website. Petrol was sold at Rs 76.22 a litre while the price of diesel was Rs 68.70 per litre in Mumbai on Monday.In Chennai, petrol is sold at Rs 73.11 a litre, down 16 paise compared to yesterday’s price of Rs 73.27 a litre, and diesel is sold at Rs 69.20, down 11 paise from Rs 69.31 a litre on Monday. Citizens in Kolkata Kolkata have to pay Rs 72.55 for a litre of petrol while diesel retailed at Rs 67.29 per litre.

However it is worth noting that a sharp rise in retail fuel prices were recorded in India for a couple of months till October 4 last year. Petrol price had peaked to Rs 84 a litre in Delhi and it crossed the Rs 91 mark in Mumbai.
