New Delhi: Even on Republic Day, oil companies have shocked the common people. On Tuesday, the price of diesel-petrol has gone up by 35-35 paise a litre. Petrol has reached a record Rs 86.05 per litre in Delhi. Crude oil prices are showing a strong strength in the global market, though the crude oil that comes in the Indian market is 25 to 30 days ago.

With this increase, petrol has reached Rs 86.05 and diesel at Rs 76.27 a litre in Delhi. Similarly, petrol has been hiked by Rs 92.60 and diesel at Rs 83.02, petrol in Chennai at Rs 88.58 and diesel at Rs 81.46 and in Kolkata at Rs 87.43 and diesel at Rs 79.81. Petrol is being sold at Rs 85.47 and diesel at Rs 76.66 a litre in Noida.  With this growth, the government has been given tremendous revenue in the form of excise tax in this current financial year. The price of both fuels has increased by about Rs 2.34 per litre in the new year.

The price rise of petrol and diesel leads to a rise in inflation. But the government may not be bothered about it because of the convenient level of inflation. The oil companies are free to raise the price and review it every day. Petrol prices have gone up by nearly Rs 16 per litre in the last 10 months and have reached a record level.
