New Delhi: The new omicron variant of corona infection has caused a stir all over the world. Omicron cases are growing rapidly in many countries including the UK, US, Israel. Omicron's pace has also picked up in India. Meanwhile, news of relief has come from the US, where corona drug Paxlovid has been allowed to use emergency. It is claimed that after taking this medicine, the chances of patients being admitted to the hospital and dying will be greatly reduced.

What is Paxlovid?
Paxlovid corona drug, which will be given to patients on the advice of physicians. The drug has just been allowed to be used by the U.S. Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) only. The drug was made by U.S. company Pfizer. U.S. President Joe Biden has described the drug as a major decision in the war against corona. The same drug will now be given only to patients above the age of 12 years and who weigh at least 40 kg. This means that if you are above 12 years of age, but weigh less than 40 kg, this medicine will not be given. This medicine will have a 5-day course. Although the drug is yet to be allowed for corona, it can be used as an emergency.

Paxlovid is not a substitute for the corona vaccine. It is just a corona medicine that will be useful in its treatment. The vaccine is very effective in protecting against corona. These drugs have proved safe in clinical trials. According to FDA, the company had involved 2,100 individuals above 18 years in clinical trials. Out of this, 1,039 were given Paxlovid medicine and 1,046 were given the placebo. According to the results, Paxlovid reduces the risk of patients being admitted to hospitals and dying by 88%. In addition, only 0.6% of those who were given Paxlovid needed to be admitted to the hospital or died. On the other hand, the figure in the Plasbo candidate was 6%.
