Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has filed a PIL seeking a ban on reading prayers on the road and giving a stay on the mike. The petitioner is BJP leader Anuranjan Ashok. He has said that this petition has nothing to do with any religion, but it is necessary to fight the problem of noise pollution.
Ashok has said that the sound of the loudspeaker should remain within the limit of 10 decibels. But it is being violated continuously by mosques. He had asked the Government of Jharkhand in November last year to take action on this issue. After the apathy of the government, Anuranjan Ashok has now reached the court. The plea also seeks to ban the reading of prayers on roads and public places. Anurranjan has said that there should be a law under which prayers should be read-only in the mosque. Recent pictures of children's prayers on the road at Hazaribagh in Jharkhand went viral on social media.
Recently the ban on loudspeakers in Goa has been imposed. This ban has been imposed after hearing a software engineer's plea. In Karnataka, the state board has banned the use of loudspeakers at mosques and shrines between 10 am and 5 am.
