New Delhi [India], July 31 (NT): The new decresed Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates over a variety of items related the women have been implemented  from July 27.

 Union Minister Piyush Goyal taking to Twitter on Monday stated that the PM Modi led central government has given a "big relief" to Indian woman by helping them save more money so that they can buy basic items of their needs.

"Giving a big relief to the Indian women, the central government has reduced GST rates on various items of their needs. As the rates of these items will come down, the women will be able to save more and will be able to purchase all basic items at reduced prices," FM Piyush Goyal tweeted.

Piyush Goyal also posted a video paying attention to the reduced GST rates over various items.

 Worth mention here the 28th GST Council meeting earlier removed 100 percent GST on sanitary pads, while it cut GST rates on other basic items like hair colour and dryer, hair removal equipments, powder puff, scent spray, jewellery box and handbags as ANI reported.

Union Minister Smriti Irani wrote on Twitter, "The 28th GST Council Meeting brought a slew of benefits for women".

It is noted that The GST rates have been reduced from 18 percent to 12 percent on handbags, jewellery box, wooden box for paintings, glass art ware, ornamental framed mirrors, handmade lamps, wax, natural gum, iron and brass products.

In addition the council also decided to cancel out tax on raw materials such as stone, marble and wood, which is used by for making handicrafts like sculptures.  Besides that, rakhis, sal leaves, the raw materials used to craft regular brooms have also been totally exempted from being charged under GST.

The GST rates  also has been cut from 28 per cent to 18 per cent for commodities such as lithium-ion batteries, vacuum cleaners, food grinders, mixers, storage water heaters, head dryers, hand dryers, paint, varnishes, water cooler, milk cooler, ice cream coolers, perfumes, toilet sprays and other toiletries.  (NT)
