New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the Indian Air Force to join the ongoing evacuation efforts under 'Operation Ganga' on Tuesday in order to scale up the activities.
According to the sources, utilizing the Air Force's capabilities will allow for more people to be evacuated in less time. It will also aid in the more effective delivery of humanitarian aid, according to sources. As part of 'Operation Ganga,' the Indian Air Force is expected to deploy multiple C-17 aircraft starting today.
'Operation Ganga' has been initiated by the Union government to return stranded students and Indian citizens back from the conflict-torn Ukraine. Air India is operating special flights as part of the 'Operation Ganga' effort.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Ram Nath Kovind and updated him on the current situation and government's actions.
PM Modi said yesterday while presiding over a high-level meeting on the Ukraine issue that the entire government machinery is working around the clock to ensure that all trapped Indians in Ukraine are safe and protected, said the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.
Meanwhile, a number of students evacuated from Ukraine reached in Mumbai by an Air India Express flight from Bucharest, Romanian capital, on Tuesday morning.
