NEW DELHI: In order to make the Monsoon Session fruitful and constructive, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that he considered Parliament as a place for talks with an open mind. He urged all Members of Parliament to approach issues with the same mentality and, in many cases, debate them.
Speaking to the media prior to the start of the Parliament's monsoon session, PM Modi described the current session as "crucial" because it would see the election of a new President and Vice-President of India, and that, too, in the year that the nation celebrated its 75th anniversary of independence. In order to positively influence policy decisions, he added, "We always consider the House to be an efficient medium of communication, where there is an open-hearted discourse, debate, and criticism that is properly assessed."
All MPs should be aware of their obligations to protect the House's honour, he said. The Prime Minister added, "The Parliament functions and makes the best decisions with everyone's efforts. He also urged MPs from opposition parties to carefully examine relevant problems and discussions in order to make useful contributions to policymaking.
To set the tone for the next 25 years leading up to the country's centennial year of independence, a milestone that should be celebrated with progress, it was stated that the present year, which marks 75 years of the country's independence, was significant. He urged the MPs to remember the aspirations of the freedom fighters who had sacrificed their lives as well as those who had lived their entire in prison
