NEW DELHI: Addressing the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a swipe at Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a Congress leader from West Bengal, stating, "He's an expert in making cow dung from jaggery." PM Modi also criticized the political situation in West Bengal and questioned why the Congress party had not allowed Chowdhury to speak in the Lok Sabha. He remarked, "The tallest leader in the Opposition ranks is not on the list of speakers; Amit Shah's generosity promised time to Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury," within the Lok Sabha.

Modi further speculated, "Perhaps they received a call from Kolkata," alluding to the potential influence from the city. Responding to BJP's slogan on the 81st anniversary of the Quit India movement, which called for an end to dynasticism, corruption, and appeasement politics, Chowdhury stated, "It is time for polarization, communalization, and saffronization to quit India," countering the BJP-led government.

Chowdhury's comments drew a sharp response from Home Minister Amit Shah, who urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to call for restraint and decorum in the House. Chowdhury retorted by questioning Shah's anger when the Prime Minister had no objections to his speech.

Later, Speaker Om Birla expunged certain remarks made by Chowdhury. PM Modi added, "The opposition couldn't prepare for the debate on the no-confidence motion despite having ample time, even their sympathizers are disappointed."

In his response to the no-confidence motion, Prime Minister Modi affirmed on Thursday that the opposition's action bodes well for his government, expressing confidence that the BJP and its allies will surpass previous records to remain in power in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In 2018, when the opposition introduced the no-confidence motion, Modi's government secured a second term with a larger mandate in 2019.

Modi criticized the opposition parties for obstructing discussions on several bills related to the country's development, highlighting that they have demonstrated that the interests of the party are prioritized over those of the nation.
