New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Union Minister Piyush Goyal a happy birthday and wished him a long and healthy life. Goyal is now in Geneva, where he is leading India's team to the World Trade Organization's 12th Ministerial Conference.

The Prime Minister praised Goyal's work in the textiles sector, saying he was leading several projects to make India Aatmanirbhar and reform the critical textiles sector. "Minister Piyush Goyal, happy birthday! He is leading a number of initiatives to revamp India's crucial textiles sector and make it Aatmanirbhar. May he be blessed with a healthy-long life" PM Modi sent out a tweet.

Goyal, a cabinet minister in the Narendra Modi government, was born in 1964 and currently holds the portfolios of Minister of Textiles, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

In 2020, he took up the additional portfolio of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution after the demise of Ram Vilas Paswan.  He is also the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha and a member of the Rajya Sabha representing Maharashtra. In 2014, he was appointed as the Modi government's Minister of State for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy.
