Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Assam today, April 14, where he will witness a colourful Bihu programme performed by more than 10,000 Bihu dancers. Assam Chief Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma accorded cordial welcome to the Prime Minister on his arrival.
Taking to Twitter, Assam CM Biswa said wrote: "This immortal song by Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the Bard of Brahmaputra, echoes the sentiment of every Assamese . I heartily welcome the honourable PM Shri Narendramodi Ji to Assam to celebrate Bihu."
During the meet, the Prime Minister will attend a public event at Sarusajai Stadium and preside over a vibrant Bihu programme including more than 10,000 Bihu dancers. The PM will also dedicate and formally launch projects worth Rs 14,300 crore for the country.
This includes the opening of the 500 TPD Menthol Plant in Namrup, the construction of the Palashbari–Sualkuchi Bridge across the Brahmaputra River, and the beautification of Rang Ghar in Sivasagar. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of Assam Advanced Health Care Innovation Institute and also
launch 'Aapke Dwar Ayushman' campaign by distributing Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana cards to entitled beneficiaries.
Every year, Rongali or Bohag Bihu, which marks the beginning of the Assamese New Year, is marked during the first week of the Bohag month (mid-April).
The Assamese celebrate Bihu three times a year, once in January (Bhogali or Magh Bihu), once in April (Bhag or Rongali Bihu), and once in October (Kongali Bihu).
