New Delhi: Independence Day 2023 - Addressing the nation from the historic Red Fort on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed for peace in the strife-torn state of Manipur, emphasizing that the entire country stands in solidarity with its people.
"The people of Manipur have the support of the entire nation. Peace is the only path to resolve conflicts. Both the Central government and the Manipur state government are diligently working to restore peace to the region," PM Modi expressed.
He highlighted that India, as the world's largest democracy, is at the forefront in terms of population. "This vast nation holds limitless possibilities. Today, 1.4 billion members of my family celebrate Independence Day together," PM Modi proudly stated.
Paying tribute to the valiant heroes who fought for the country's freedom, he further remarked, "I extend my salutations to all our citizens, including those living abroad, who exhibit their unwavering love for our motherland. On this Independence Day, I convey my heartfelt wishes to them."
Earlier on this day, PM Modi hoisted the national flag, marking the commencement of the 77th Independence Day celebrations. He also conveyed his wishes to the citizens through his official Twitter account. "Warmest wishes on Independence Day. We honor our great freedom fighters and reaffirm our commitment to realizing their dreams. Jai Hind!" the Prime Minister tweeted.
Upon arriving at the Red Fort, PM Modi was welcomed by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Deputy Defense Minister Ajay Bhatt, and Defense Secretary Giridhar Aramane.
This year's Independence Day holds special significance as it concludes the celebrations of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,' which were initiated by Prime Minister Modi on March 12, 2021, at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. These celebrations symbolize the transition into the 'Amrit Kaal' or the era of rejuvenation and growth for the country.
