India's current PM Modi Narendra Modi is unlikely to inaugurate the third Khelo India Youth Games 2020 in Guwahati on 10 January. The Assam BJP has not received any information regarding his program so far. BJP state unit spokesperson Roopam Goswami said on Wednesday, "An invitation was sent to the Prime Minister's Office to invite Modi to inaugurate the Khelo India Youth Games." He was asked if Modi canceled his visit to Assam, to which Goswami said, "There was no such conversation that the Prime Minister is coming to Guwahati to inaugurate Khelo India."

There was speculation in the media as to whether Modi would come to inaugurate the Youth Games in Guwahati and whether he had canceled his visit due to protests against the CAA.
With the colorful opening ceremony, there will be a start of Youth Games in which 6800 players from 37 states and union territories will take part in 20 games. Union Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will be present at the inauguration ceremony to be held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium here on Friday. Many star players will be present on this occasion, including Farrata runner Hima Das. Sonowal said, 'Youth Games have started the game revolution in India and we are proud that this time these games are being organized in Assam. I wish the players all the best.'
