UAE: On Saturday, July 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to embark on the final leg of his two-nation visit. This one-day visit holds great significance as it aims to further strengthen the growing bilateral relations between India and the UAE, which have been identified as strategic partners.
During his stay, Prime Minister Modi has a scheduled meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Together, they will engage in discussions and assessments of the various aspects of the bilateral relationship.
Before arriving in the UAE, PM Modi successfully concluded his two-day trip to Paris, where he had the honor of attending the Bastille Day parade as the Guest of Honour, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron. This visit also witnessed the signing of multiple agreements that aim to fortify the ties between India and France.
In anticipation of the visit, Prime Minister Modi expressed his enthusiasm to meet his friend, H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in his departure statement on Thursday. He highlighted the extensive engagement between the two countries in sectors such as trade, investments, energy, food security, science and technology, education, fintech, defence, security, and people-to-people ties.
During this visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's primary focus areas will revolve around energy, food security, and defence. The purpose is to review the progress made in bilateral relations, especially after the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and the UAE, which has played a pivotal role in enhancing economic engagement between the two nations. Notably, this agreement was signed amidst the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, underscoring the commitment to strengthening economic ties even during difficult times.
The collaboration between India and the UAE extends across various sectors, including trade, investments, energy, food security, science and technology, education, fintech, defence, security, and people-to-people connections. These robust partnerships highlight the depth of the relationship.
It is worth noting that the UAE is home to the largest ethnic community of Indian expatriates, accounting for approximately 30 percent of the country's population. As of 2021, records indicate that there are an estimated 3.5 million resident Indian nationals in the UAE.
