New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a virtual meet called for a united effort to shape global norms for emerging technologies like social media and cryptocurrencies so that they are used to "empower" democracy.
Modi has called for collaboration on the need to regulate cryptocurrencies for the second time in the last three weeks. Modi encouraged democratic nations to work together to ensure that bitcoin does not fall into the wrong hands in his virtual address at the Sydney Dialogue on November 18.
Modi began by stating that he is honoured to attend the summit as the world's largest democracy. "India would be delighted to share its experience in conducting free and fair elections and boosting transparency in all sectors of governance through new digital technologies," he said.
The prime minister said, different sections of the world have taken different roads toward democracy, and there is much to learn from one another. "We must all strive to enhance our democratic processes and systems on a continuous basis. And we must all work to improve inclusivity, transparency, human dignity, responsive grievance redress, and power decentralisation "he stated.
PM Modi stated in his virtual address that India would be pleased to share its expertise in organising free and fair elections as well as increasing transparency in all aspects of governance.
