In a notable event marking a significant milestone in India's judicial history, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the National Conference of District Judiciary on Saturday at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. This conference celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Supreme Court of India with the unveiling of a commemorative stamp and coin.

The conference, organized by the Supreme Court, was attended by prominent figures including the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, and other esteemed judges of the Supreme Court. The special stamp and coin introduced at the event symbolize the Supreme Court’s enduring legacy and its vital role in India’s democratic framework.

During his address, PM Modi emphasized the Supreme Court’s pivotal role in upholding justice and maintaining the rule of law. He stated, "The Indian judiciary and the Supreme Court have earned the unwavering trust of the people. Celebrating 75 years of the Supreme Court underscores the glory of India as a democracy. The Supreme Court has consistently upheld our faith in this institution, reflecting our cultural value of 'Satyamev Jayate'."

He further noted, "The journey of the Supreme Court over these 75 years mirrors the journey of our Constitution and its values, reflecting India's evolution as a mature democracy."

PM Modi also highlighted recent efforts to improve judicial infrastructure, mentioning that approximately 8,000 crore rupees have been invested in the last decade. He stressed that 75% of the funds allocated for judicial infrastructure in the past 25 years have been spent in the last decade alone.

"In the era of Independence, the vision for India is clear—a developed and modern nation. Our judiciary is a cornerstone of this vision," PM Modi added.

The two-day National Conference of District Judiciary, which runs through September 1, 2024, includes five working sessions that will address key issues such as judicial infrastructure, human resources, inclusive courtrooms, judicial security, case management, and judicial training.

Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and other dignitaries were also present at the event. President Droupadi Murmu is set to deliver the valedictory address on the second day of the conference, during which she will unveil the Supreme Court's flag and insignia.

The conference, which brings together over 800 participants from across India, aims to promote dialogue and collaboration among judiciary stakeholders to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of the district judiciary. Discussions will focus on improving courtrooms, judicial safety, wellness, and case management processes.

“This conference is a crucial opportunity to address the challenges faced by our district judiciary and ensure that justice remains timely, fair, and accessible to all citizens,” stated a representative from the Supreme Court.
