India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi On Saturday inaugurated the country's first Khelo India University. More than 3400 players from 159 universities across the country will now try their luck in 17 sports. Rugby is also going to be involved in these sports.

PM Modi announced the beginning of the Games through video conference and he described it as historic for the Indian Games. He said in his address that this will prove to be the next step in the country's sports revolution. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that today new history is made in Odisha. Khelo Youth University Games are beginning before the history of India. This is a historic break in India's sports history, it is also a big step for the future of India's sports.

He said that now India has joined the league of those countries of the world where university games are organized at this level. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan were also present on this historic occasion. India's female star runner Duti Chand is also a part of these sports. She will represent the host KIIT University. Apart from Dutichand, other talented players who will participate in this include Trikud athlete Jay Shah of Mangalore University, his fellow long-time runner Narendra Pratap Singh, long-distance runner Komal Jagdale of Pune University and Yaya Jyoti, runner of Acharya Nagarjuna University .
