PM Modi Extends Greetings to Rishi Sunak on His First Year in Office

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm congratulations to his UK counterpart, Rishi Sunak, on the occasion of his first anniversary in office. During their recent phone conversation, the two leaders engaged in a meaningful dialogue on the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. They also expressed their deep concerns about the issues of terrorism and the tragic loss of civilian lives in the conflict zone.

In a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs, it was highlighted that both leaders reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and the United Kingdom. This partnership extends across various domains, including trade, investment, emerging technology, defense, security, and healthcare. Notably, they acknowledged the positive progress being made in negotiations for a mutually advantageous Free Trade Agreement.

The discussion between Modi and Sunak also delved into the developments in the West Asia region, with a focus on the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Both leaders expressed their profound concerns regarding terrorism, the deteriorating security situation, and the tragic loss of innocent lives. They reached a consensus on the urgent need for regional peace, enhanced security, and stability, all while continuing to provide essential humanitarian aid in the region.  Modi and Sunak agreed to maintain open lines of communication and exchanged warm greetings in honor of the festive occasion of Deepavali.
