Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored the memory of the brave soldiers who lost their lives in the Pulwama terror attack on Wednesday. Remembering the sacrifice of the CRPF personnel, he stated, "I pay homage to the brave heroes who were martyred in Pulwama. Their service and sacrifice for our nation will always be remembered."

The Pulwama attack, which took place on February 14, 2019, marked one of the deadliest assaults on Indian security forces in Kashmir since 1989. The assailant, identified as Adil Ahmad Dar, a 22-year-old from Kakapora, carried out the attack.

The incident occurred when a convoy of vehicles transporting Indian security personnel on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway was targeted by a suicide bomber at Lethapora in Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir.

The attack claimed the lives of 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, along with the perpetrator Adil Ahmad Dar, a local Kashmiri youth.

The Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility for the attack and circulated a video of the attacker, Adil Ahmad Dar, who had joined the group a year prior.

In response, the Indian Air Force conducted airstrikes on alleged terrorist camps in Balakot, Pakistan.

Reports suggest that the Indian government received multiple intelligence warnings, including from the Intelligence Bureau and Kashmir Police, prior to the attack, raising questions about security lapses. Former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik alleged in an interview that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had advised him to refrain from discussing security failures.

The Pulwama attack strained India-Pakistan relations, leading to a military standoff in 2019. Subsequent investigations identified 19 suspects, with the main accused and six others being killed by August 2021, while seven were arrested.
