Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the launch of the PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme, aiming to provide free electricity to its recipients. Under this initiative, the central government plans to allocate 300 units of electricity per month, with an investment totaling Rs.75,000 crores.

"To advance sustainable development and enhance the welfare of the people, we are initiating the PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme. With an investment exceeding Rs. 75,000 crores, this endeavor targets illuminating 1 crore households by granting up to 300 units of complimentary electricity each month," stated PM Modi in his social media update. Alongside this announcement, PM Modi provided a direct link for applicants to access.

Here's how to apply for the PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme:

  1. Visit the official website: pmsuryaghar.gov.in
  2. Click on the 'Apply for Rooftop Solar' option.
  3. Register by filling in your personal information such as State, District, Consumer Account Number, and Electricity Distribution Company.
  4. Complete the Rooftop Solar application form.
  5. Await feasibility approval from the DISCOM (Electricity Distribution Company). Once approved, proceed to install the solar panels through any registered vendor within your DISCOM.
  6. After installation, submit the details of the solar panels and apply for a net meter.
  7. Upon net meter installation and inspection by DISCOM, they will issue a commissioning certificate via the portal.
  8. Once the commissioning report is received, submit your bank account details along with a canceled cheque through the portal. Your subsidy will be credited to your bank account within 30 days.
