PM Narendra Modi arrives in Goa to pay homage to martyrs

New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi has reached Goa on Sunday. He was received by CM Pramod Sawant on arrival at Panaji airport. The Prime Minister paid homage to the martyrs at the Martyrs' Memorial at Azad Maidan. He will attend the celebrations to be held on Goa Liberation Day. He will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several development projects. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has said in a press release that the Prime Minister will attend the Liberation Day function at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium.

PM Modi felicitated the freedom fighters of 'Operation Vijay'. The operation was carried out by the Indian Armed Forces to rid Goa of Portuguese rule. The Prime Minister will then inaugurate various projects including New South Goa District Hospital, rebuilt Agowda Jail Museum, Super Speciality Section of Goa Medical College. According to PMO, PM Modi will inaugurate the Aviation Skill Development Centre at Mopa Airport.

PMO said that the PM will then inaugurate a gas sub-station which is present at the Debonnational University in Mandgaon. He will then lay the foundation stone of the Indian International University on Law Education and Research. The PM's visit to Goa comes at a time when all parties are focusing on next year's Goa assembly elections. On the other hand, when it comes to Goa Liberation Day, it is held every year. Goa was liberated from Portuguese rule by the Indian Army. This day is celebrated on this occasion.
