Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday and start the renovation work of a fertilizer factory which was closed for the last three decades.
The government earlier on Wednesday gave its nod to the establishment of a new AIIMS, a move which aims at providing super-specialty health care to people of the state and creating a large pool of doctors.
The Union Cabinet approved the setting up of AIIMS under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,011 crore.
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Modi approved the setting up of the hospital which will have a capacity of 750 beds and also include emergency or trauma and AYUSH sections.
