New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is committed to meeting the needs of the poor and vulnerable by building next-generation infrastructure and understanding their aspirations during the opening session of the International Convention on Catastrophe Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI) on Wednesday.

"Infrastructure is not simply about developing capital assets and producing a long-term return on investment," the PM said in a video greeting to the crowd. It has nothing to do with the statistics,  It has nothing to do with money. It's all about the people. It's about providing them with high-quality, dependable, and long-term providers in a fair manner." He said that the Sustainable Growth Targets, which pledge to "leave no one behind," governed India. "People must be at the centre of any infrastructure development story. "And that's exactly what we're doing in India," PM Modi remarked.

He also lauded the initiatives of the Coalition for Catastrophe Resilient Infrastructure, which is hosting the convention online. "Within a two-and-a-half-year period, CDRI has taken important steps and made valuable contributions. "Our commitment to cooperating with Small Island governments is evident in the initiative on 'Infrastructure for Resilient Island States,' which was announced at COP26 last year," he said.

PM Modi also discussed India's developmental initiatives. "We are taking a very direct approach to local weather change." That is why, at COP-26, we committed to achieving "Internet Zero" by 2070, in tandem with our development initiatives," he said.

Pitching  for resilient infrastructure, he said for utilising "current know-how and information at our disposal" to build "infrastructure that is built to last." "By making infrastructure robust, we are preventing disasters not just for ourselves but for many future generations," he said.
The ICDRI will be conducted in The Oberoi in New Delhi from May 4 to 6, in both offline and online modes, in conjunction with the US government. The Prime Ministers of Australia and Japan, as well as the Presidents of Ghana and Madagascar, spoke at the event.
