New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced a groundbreaking week-long program today, known as 'Sankalp Saptaah,' aimed at bolstering governance within aspirational blocks across the nation. The launch event took place at the prestigious Bharat Mandapam at 10 a.m. on September 30.

'Sankalp Saptaah' is intricately linked to the ambitious Aspirational Blocks Programme (ABP), which was initially introduced by the Prime Minister on January 7. The primary objective, as outlined by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), is to catalyze improvements in governance at the grassroots level, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for citizens. This transformative initiative will be rolled out across 500 aspirational blocks spanning 329 districts throughout India.

The path to implementing the Aspirational Blocks Programme and formulating a comprehensive block development strategy involved organizing brainstorming sessions, known as "chintan shivirs," at the village and block levels across the country, as highlighted in the PMO's statement. 'Sankalp Saptaah' serves as the culmination of these efforts, signaling a united commitment to progress. This monumental event will be observed concurrently in all 500 aspirational blocks.

'Sankalp Saptaah' spans from October 3 to October 9, 2023, with each day dedicated to a specific development theme, fostering concerted efforts in all aspirational blocks. The thematic areas for the first six days include 'Sampoorna Swasthya' (Complete Health), 'Suposhit Pariwaar' (Nourished Families), 'Swachhta' (Cleanliness), 'Krishi' (Agriculture), 'Shiksha' (Education), and 'Samridhi Diwas' (Prosperity Day). The week will culminate on October 9 with a celebration of the collective accomplishments under the banner of 'Sankalp Saptaah – Samavesh Samaroh' (Sankalp Week Inclusion Ceremony).

The inaugural program witnessed active participation from approximately 3,000 representatives from panchayats and block levels across the nation, who gathered at Bharat Mandapam. Additionally, a staggering two lakh individuals, including block and panchayat level functionaries, farmers, and members from various walks of life, virtually joined this momentous event, underlining the program's extensive reach and impact.

'Sankalp Saptaah' signifies a pivotal step towards realizing the vision of inclusive and effective governance in India's aspirational blocks, fostering hope and transformative change at the grassroots level.
