New Delhi: India hosted the third edition of the Voice of Global South Summit today, centered around the concept of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,' which translates to "the world is one family." This event is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guiding principle of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas' (Together for everyone's growth, trust, and effort).
The summit aims to unite nations from the Global South, allowing them to share their perspectives and priorities on a broad spectrum of global challenges. With the overarching theme "An Empowered Global South for a Sustainable Future," this third edition seeks to build upon the discussions held in previous summits. The focus is on critical issues like conflicts, food and energy security, and climate change, all of which have a significant impact on developing nations.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the summit involves virtual sessions and includes a Leaders' Session and Ministerial Sessions. Prime Minister Modi will lead the inaugural session, which will focus on the same central theme: "An Empowered Global South for a Sustainable Future."
The summit includes 10 Ministerial Sessions addressing specific sectors:
The inaugural edition of this summit was held in January 2023, followed by the second summit in November 2023, both in virtual formats. Over 100 countries from the Global South participated in the previous editions. The feedback from these nations played a significant role in shaping the agenda for the G-20 Summit under India’s Presidency, particularly in the G-20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration.
