TRICHI:Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the historic Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Trichy on Saturday, immersing himself in the verses of 'Kambaramayanam,' a 12th-century epic composed by Tamil poet Kambar. Dressed in traditional veshti and angavastram, the Prime Minister offered prayers at the renowned temple and sought blessings from an elephant named 'Andal' on the temple premises, even feeding it.

During his visit, PM Modi had the opportunity to listen to a scholar reciting verses from the ancient 'Kambaramayanam,' an old rendition of the Ramayana. It is noteworthy that Kambar initially presented his Ramayana at the same temple centuries ago, winning the hearts of the people. To commemorate this historic event, there is a dedicated platform called 'Kamba Ramayana Mantapam' in the temple, where the PM sat, reinforcing the profound connection between Tamil culture, Tamil Nadu, and the epic tale of Sri Ram.

The Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple in Srirangam holds special significance, being one of the oldest temple complexes in the country with a strong link to Lord Ram. The deity worshipped at Srirangam is Sri Ranganatha Swamy, a reclining form of Lord Vishnu. Legend has it that the idol at Srirangam was originally worshipped by Lord Ram and his ancestors. The Prime Minister's visit to this sacred site was met with enthusiasm, as a large crowd gathered along his route to greet him.

Welcomed by priests with Sanskrit slogans on the road, expressing joy at his arrival, the Chief Priest of the temple, Sundar Bhattar, remarked, "All devotees of India are delighted that our PM is visiting Srirangam. This is the first time a Prime Minister has come here, and we are proud of his visit. Our PM's concern for everyone's welfare aligns with the benevolent spirit of Lord Ranganathar, making this a blessed occasion for Srirangam."

The Prime Minister is set to continue his spiritual journey with Darshan and Pooja at the Sri Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram. This temple, dedicated to Sri Ramanathaswamy, a form of Lord Shiva, holds significance as one of the Char Dhams and also one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, along with Badrinath, Dwarka, and Puri.
