Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence that India will soon witness the production of Boeing aircraft within its borders. This statement was made during the inauguration of Boeing's engineering center in Bengaluru on January 19.
Boeing's new facility, known as the Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC), is the company's largest establishment outside the United States. The focus of this center will be on research and development. Boeing disclosed an investment of $200 million in the 43-acre campus but did not specify the number of employees the facility will accommodate. Currently, Boeing has over 6,000 employees across its various centers in India.
During the event, attended by senior Boeing executives, including Chief Operating Officer Stephanie Pope, PM Modi emphasized the urgent need to establish an aircraft manufacturing ecosystem within India. He stated, "Given the immense potential in India, we need to swiftly build an aircraft manufacturing ecosystem in the country."
India's aviation market, recognized as the world's fastest-growing, has seen a heightened demand for Boeing jets, surpassing the available supply of planes. On January 18, Akasa Air, India's youngest carrier, placed an order for 150 737 MAX narrowbody jets, contributing to Boeing's increased interest in the region.
Boeing has an existing partnership with India's Tata Group for the production of AH-64 Apache helicopter fuselages and 737 aircraft vertical fin structures, showcasing the collaborative efforts between the two entities.
