Kolkata: Cyclonic storm 'Amfan' will take a severe form by Monday evening and due to this, there is a possibility of heavy rains with strong winds in the coastal areas of Odisha and areas near the Ganges river of West Bengal. PM Narendra Modi chaired the high level meeting this evening to review the situation arising out of 'Amfan'.
PM Modi held a big meeting with the Home Ministry and the National Disaster Management Authority. The Ministry of Home Affairs, in a consultation issued to the governments of West Bengal and Odisha, has said that 'Amfan' is situated on Monday morning in the central parts of the Bay of South Bengal and above the adjacent central Bay of Bengal. The Meteorological Department said that the cyclonic storm will cause heavy rains in coastal Odisha and areas adjacent to the Ganges in West Bengal. While the Odisha government is preparing to take 11 lakh people living in sensitive areas to safe places, the West Bengal government has issued a warning for the coastal districts and has sent relief teams.
The Meteorological Department has issued an 'Orange' warning for West Bengal, saying that 'Amfan' as a very severe storm during midday or evening on 20 May, between Hatia Island in Bangladesh and Digha in West Bengal, West Bengal And Bangladesh will knock on the coast, due to which there may be rain with thunderstorms.
