Amidst the corona epidemic, Pakistan's Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed on Monday ordered that closed shopping malls across the country be reopened. He issued this order, taking suo motu cognizance of the government steps taken on the epidemic. In Pakistan, the lockdown was relaxed on May 9. Under this, permission was given to open businesses and markets except for malls.

According to reports, the Supreme Court Chief Justice questioned the decision to keep the mall closed. He also instructed the officials that markets should be allowed to open on Saturday and Sunday as well. He said, 'Coronavirus goes nowhere on Saturday and Sunday.' Chief Justice Ahmed had earlier issued these orders to the government of Sindh province, but later said that they should be implemented nationwide.

Earlier, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had also taken suo moto cognizance of the government's steps in dealing with the Corona epidemic last month. Pakistan's Health Ministry said on Monday that 1,974 people were found to be corona test positive during the last 24 hours in the country. The total number of infected people has increased to 42 thousand 125. So far 903 victims have died.
