Former Nagaland CM and senior Congress leader SC Jamir on Saturday met PM Narendra Modi and exchanged views with him on several contemporary issues. The PM said this in a tweet. He also shared some photos related to the meeting. "Meeting former Nagaland CM and respected politician SC Jamir was tremendous. We exchanged views on a number of issues. He also worked as governor of Gujarat for some time in 2009 and has some good memories of this.''

The same veteran North East leader SC Jamir has been the CM of Nagaland five times and governor of several states. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Central Government in 2020. SC Jamir's meeting with Prime Minister Modi comes after the recent bypoll results. The by-election to Nagaland's Shamator Chesor assembly was announced, but Democratic Progressive Party candidate K Keoshu Yikchungar was declared elected unopposed on October 13.

The seat, which falls in Tyunsang district, fell vacant after the death of sitting MLA Toshi Vungtung, who succumbed to post-Corona catastrophes on July 1. In Assam, BJP and its allies had won all the seats in the by-election to 5 assembly seats. BJP won three seats while its ally United People's Party Liberal candidates won two seats.
