New Dekhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a strong case for the use of local languages in courts on Saturday, April 30, 2022, claiming that it will boost residents' trust in the justice system and make them feel more connected to it.

"In the courts, we need to encourage the use of local languages. This would not only boost citizens' trust in the judicial system, but it will also make them feel more connected to it "Prime Minister made the remarks while speaking at a joint meeting of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of High Courts in New Delhi.The PM also urged Chief Ministers to remove antiquated legislation in order to make justice more accessible.

"In 2015, we identified over 1,800 statutes that had become obsolete. One thousand and fifty-five of the Centre's laws were repealed. However, only 75 of these legislation have been repealed by state legislatures "he stated.

PM Modi asserted that while India commemorates its 75th anniversary of independence, the focus should be on developing a legal system that is accessible, swift, and accessible to all.
"While the judiciary serves as the guardian of the Constitution in our country, the legislature expresses citizens' aspirations. I believe that the intersection of these two will lay the groundwork for a countrywide judicial system that is both effective and timely " PM Modi said.
