New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday praised the Government-e-Marketplace (GeM) for achieving annual procurement of Rs 1 lakh crore in the Financial Year 2021-22, claiming that the platform is empowering Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), with the sector accounting for 57 percent of order value.

The GeM is a national public procurement portal for Central and State government agencies to purchase goods and services. "It's exciting to learn that the Government e Marketplace (GeM) has received orders worth Rs 1 lakh crore in just one year! In comparison to past years, this is a huge increase. The GeM platform is particularly beneficial to MSMEs, with the MSME sector accounting for 57% of total order value "In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi stated.

According to the data, annual procurement in FY 20-21 was Rs 38580 crore, in FY 19-20 it was Rs 22991 crore, in FY 18-19 it was Rs 17462 crore, in FY 17-18 it was Rs 6188 crore, and in FY 2016-17 it was Rs 422 crore.

With the advent of "Womaniya for Women Entrepreneurs and Women-led Self-Help Groups (SHG)," direct sale of handicrafts, handlooms, accessories, and other items to ministries and departments, it is further empowering the "Aatmanirbhar Narishakti." Various national and state women's organisations also provide training for female entrepreneurs.
