New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the necessity of a stable majority government during times of global uncertainty. His remarks were made during the release of the Bharatiya Janata Party's election manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in New Delhi. Coincidentally, on the same day, Iran's proxies and allies conducted coordinated attacks on Israeli positions.

The Iranian assault, occurring shortly after a suspected Israeli strike in Syria that resulted in the deaths of two Iranian generals in an Iranian consular building, signifies the first direct military assault by Iran on Israel, despite decades of animosity dating back to the country’s 1979 Islamic Revolution.

In his address, Modi alluded to the prevailing global tension, stating, “The world is currently shrouded in uncertainty and teetering on the brink of war. In such tumultuous times, the safety and security of Indians residing in these regions are of paramount importance. A strong and stable government with a decisive majority becomes imperative in such circumstances, one that can propel the nation towards economic prosperity and development.” He reaffirmed the BJP's commitment to providing such governance, as outlined in the party's manifesto.

The Israeli military reported that Iran's unprecedented attack had been thwarted, with hundreds of missiles and drones intercepted with assistance from the United States and other allies.

The escalation in hostilities represents a significant development in the ongoing covert conflict between the regional adversaries, occurring amidst the backdrop of the prolonged conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

India expressed serious concerns regarding the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, calling for immediate de-escalation of the situation to safeguard peace and security in the region.

"We are deeply troubled by the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran, which poses a threat to regional peace and stability," stated the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a released statement.

"We urge all parties to exercise restraint, refrain from violence, and return to diplomatic dialogue," the statement added.

The MEA underscored India's vigilant monitoring of the evolving situation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining security and stability in the region through close coordination with the Indian community and diplomatic channels.
