Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Babulal Gaur passed away at the age of 89 in Bhopal yesterday. The news of his demise has swelled a wave of mourning across the country, including the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet that "Babulal Gaurji's long political career was dedicated to the service of the people. Since the time of the Jan Sangh, he worked hard to make the party strong and popular. His work for the development of Madhya Pradesh as a minister and chief minister will always be remembered," he said.

At the same time, former MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, "The end of an era in Madhya Pradesh politics. I am saddened by the passing away of Shri Babulal Gaur, the BJP's base pillar, the former chief minister, our guide and the leader of the people.
