New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the Lok Sabha during the upcoming Special Parliament Session commencing on Monday, according to insider sources.

The sources indicate that the Prime Minister's speech is scheduled for 11 am in the Lower House. This unique five-day parliamentary session, starting on Monday, marks the transition of parliamentary proceedings from the old building to the new state-of-the-art facility on September 19.

Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, disclosed on Sunday that the session will encompass five sittings over five days, and it is expected to deliberate on eight legislative items. The discussion will also delve into the "Parliamentary journey of 75 years, commencing with the Samvidhan Sabha - its achievements, experiences, memories, and lessons."

On Sunday, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar raised the national flag atop the "Gaja Dwar" of the new Parliament building, with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in attendance. The Special Parliament Session is scheduled from September 18 to 22.

After a period of limited information regarding the session's agenda, the government recently unveiled its plan, encompassing bills for consideration and a dialogue on the "Parliamentary journey of 75 years, commencing with the Samvidhan Sabha - its achievements, experiences, memories, and lessons."

On a prior Sunday, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Joshi, appealed to all political parties for active cooperation and support to ensure the smooth functioning of both Houses of Parliament.

The meeting of floor leaders from various political parties in Parliament included participation from several ministers, including Union Minister Piyush Goyal, who also leads the House in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister V Muraleedharan, and 51 leaders from 34 parties.

Joshi informed the leaders that a photo session is scheduled from 10:00 am to 10:45 am on September 19, 2023, followed by a function in the Central Hall at 11:00 am. The function will be graced by the Vice-President/Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, the Leader of the Largest Opposition Party in the Lok Sabha, and members of both Houses of Parliament.

Following the Central Hall function, both Houses will convene in their respective Chambers in the New Parliament House.

The announcement of this Special Session took the political community by surprise, as parties are preparing for assembly polls in five states later this year.
