NEW DELHI: India Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to flag off "Ganga Vilas," the world's longest luxury river cruise, on January 13.
The crusie will sail off from UP's Varanasi to Dibrugarh in Assam, covering 3,200 km in 50 days. The cruise will pass through 27 river systems in India and Bangladesh, and tourists will be taken to over50 tourist sites, including world heritage sites.
Even though the district administration has not yet received a formal programme from the Prime Minister's Office, preparations have already begun. The officers of the Culture Department, Tourism Department, and Inland Waterways Transport have received the requisite orders in this respect from Varanasi Divisional Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma and District Magistrate S Rajalingam.
Sharma said on Thursday that the longest cruise in the world, from Varanasi to Dibrugarh, will set sail on January 13. The cruise will be flagged off from the jetty boarding point opposite to Ravidas Ghat.
As oper official sources, the Ganga Vilas Cruise would go 3,200 kilometres overall. This will be the longest cruise itinerary ever. The entire trip will last 50 days. This trip will make more than 50 stops along the way, including World Heritage Sites.
He mentioned that this vessel will also pass through via national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. These include Kaziranga National Park and the Sundarban Delta.
