New Delhi: In wake of the rise in COVID cases in the country over the last two weeks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will convene a meeting with Chief Ministers via video conferencing today to examine the situation.

The virtual meeting will take place at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). The meeting is expected to be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and officials from their respective Ministries, in addition to the Prime Minister and senior officials from the Prime Minister's Office.

According to sources, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan will give a presentation on the current state of COVID, the scope of immunisation, particularly the booster push, and the trajectory of cases in specific states.  PM Modi has already met with Chief Ministers and even District Magistrates to gain a better understanding of the situation on the ground.

In the previous 24 hours, India has seen 2,483 new COVID-19 instances. According to a bulletin issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday, there are 15,636 current cases with a 0.55 percent positive rate.

On Sunday's Mann Ki Baat radio programme, Prime Minister Modi encouraged people to be on the lookout for COVID-19 throughout the festive season. To keep COVID at bay, he urged people to wear masks and wash their hands at frequent intervals. Meanwhile, in a tweet, Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya stated that over 86 percent of the adult population has now been fully vaccinated.
