NEW DELHI: On October 5, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur, marking a significant milestone in the institution's journey.

Established in 2008 alongside seven other IITs, IIT Jodhpur is strategically located along the Jodhpur-Nagaur Highway, occupying an impressive 852-acre expanse of land. Over the past 15 years, IIT Jodhpur has carved out a distinct identity for itself through its innovative and multidisciplinary curriculum, as well as its robust research initiatives. This historic dedication ceremony, to be held on Thursday, October 5, signifies a momentous occasion in the institute's history, according to an official statement by IIT Jodhpur.

The statement went on to express pride in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's role in dedicating the campus to the nation, reinforcing the institution's commitment to advancing excellence in education, research, and innovation. IIT Jodhpur is renowned for its meticulously planned technical campus, replete with sustainability initiatives, and it is deeply devoted to nurturing intellectual prowess, instilling human values, and producing future leaders committed to the vision of a self-reliant India.

IIT Jodhpur's academic curriculum is in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020 and boasts several distinctive features. The institution offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, focusing on emerging fields such as Clean Energy, Artificial Intelligence, Bioengineering, and more.

Professor Santanu Chaudhury, Director of IIT Jodhpur, expressed his anticipation for the dedication ceremony, stating that it signifies a pivotal moment for the institution as it transitions from its inception phase to an active role in contributing to the nation's development. He emphasized the potential for IITs, through education, research, and innovation, to play a central role in driving economic growth, healthcare advancements, and improved livelihoods for local communities.

Additionally, the statement highlighted collaborative efforts between IIT Jodhpur and AIIMS Jodhpur, offering innovative joint degree programs in Medical Technologies. The institution also actively engages students and faculty in a mandatory social connect program, promoting scientific projects that benefit rural and surrounding areas. IIT Jodhpur fosters innovation and entrepreneurship skills, providing structured support through an incubation program.

Students at IIT Jodhpur have the opportunity to delve into advanced research in interdisciplinary areas such as Digital Humanities, Computational Social Science, Quantum Information and computation, Space Science and technology, Robotics and mobility, among others. The institution is actively involved in significant projects supported by various government agencies, including DST, ISRO, DRDO, DAE, MeitY, DBT, BIRAC, the Ministry of Ayush, and the Office of Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India.
