PM Modi to launch world's largest government-funded healthcare program today

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to launch the Ayushman Bharat -Pradhan Mantri Jan AarogyaYojana (AB-PMJAY) in Ranchi today. This scheme is not only the country but also the world’s biggest health plan. Under this scheme, free treatment facilities will be provided to more than 10.74 crore poor families of the country.

PMJAY considered to be the world's largest government-funded healthcare program as it will target more than 10.74 crore families (approximate 50 crore beneficiaries). This scheme will provide a cover of up to Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year, for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation. Under this scheme beneficiary will be provides cashless and paperless access to services. This scheme will help to reduce catastrophic expenditure for hospitalisation, which impoverishes people and will help reduce the financial risk arising out of catastrophic health episodes.

Prime Minister Modi had made the first announcement of this scheme on August 15, while addressing the people from the Red Fort of Delhi. However, then many states had refused to adopt it. But now except Odisha, Telangana and Delhi all the states and Union Territories of the country have agreed to adopt this scheme.

The launch of this scheme will be beneficial for the BJP government in the LOK Shabha poll 2019.
