Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to interact with the chief ministers of eight north-eastern states on Tuesday to discuss the Covid-19 situation amid concerns over the coronavirus numbers in the region. PM will review the situation pertaining to coronavirus disease with the chief ministers of the northeastern states at 11 am on Tuesday.

According to sources info, PM Modi will interact with the chief ministers of Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram via video conferencing. While most parts of the country have seen a steady decline in the Covid numbers, the northeast region has been a cause of concern with the number of cases either rising or not falling in line with the nationwide trend, experts have noted.

PM Modi's proposed meeting follows Union cabinet secretary Rajiv Gauba's interaction with the officials of the north-eastern states' home department last Wednesday.

Last week PM Modi held a review meeting where it was found that of the 73 districts in the country with case positivity rates above 10%, as many as 46 belonged to the north-eastern states, prompting the Centre to put its focus on the region.
