PUNJAB: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Baba Gurinder Singh Dhillon at the Radha Soami Satsang Beas Dera in Punjab on Saturday.
One of the six notable deras in Punjab, the Dera Beas has a sizable following not only there but also in several other North Indian states, such as Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa along with DGP Gaurav Yadav and Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua received the prime minister at the airport.
Prior to the Punjab assembly elections in February, PM Modi met with the dera chief in Delhi.
Prior to the visit, on Friday morning, PM Modi tweeted, "I shall have the honour of visiting the Radha Soami Satsang Beas tomorrow, November 5. The RSSB is leading many community service initiatives under the direction of Baba Gurinder Singh Dhillon Ji."
Later in the day, the prime minister will also be in poll-bound Himachal Pradesh where he will address rallies in Sundar Nagar and Solan.
PM Modi tweeted on Friday."I look forward to being in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday. I would be addressing rallies in Sundar Nagar and Solan. BJP for Himachal is going to the people with the proven track record of development and highlighting the pro-people efforts of the double engine governments,"
The dera Beas is one of 6 prominent deras in Punjab and enjoys a huge following not only in the state, but also in several states of North India, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and also Rajasthan.
The Himachal Pradesh elections are scheduled on November 12.
