After the death of the 8th Guru Harikrishna Rai Ji, he was made the 9th Guru. They built Anandpur Sahib and they started living there. Guru TegBahadur was extremely brave, fearless in nature and spiritually interested since childhood. Guru TegBahadur showed his bravery in the war against the attack of the Mughals with his father at the age of only 14. Impressed by his wonderful heroism, his father named him Tegh Bahadur, the man of the sword. He did not convert to Islam even after all the efforts of the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb and faced all the atrocities with full determination. Aurangzeb asked him to accept Islam, then Guru Sahib said shisha can be cut and not kesh.
