New Delhi: World Lion Day is celebrated every year on August 10. The reason behind celebrating this day is to raise awareness and garner support for the declining lion population and conservation. You all must be aware that the number of lions in India is going on at the moment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on World Lion Day today. He tweeted, "A lion is majestic and courageous. India is proud to be home to Asian lions. On World Lion Day, I congratulate all those who are enthusiastic about lion conservation. You will be happy to know that India's lion population has increased steadily in the last few years.''

Yes, the Asian lion is one of the five big cats found in India, while the other four are the Royal Bengal Tiger, The Indian Leopard, the Clouded Leopard, and the Snow Leopard. There was a time when lions roamed freely in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, although they have disappeared more than 80 percent of their historical border in the last 100 years. Coming to the present, lions are currently present in more than 25 African countries and one Asian country. The survey conducted some time ago, revealed that their number slipped from about 30,000 to about 20,000.
