NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved a significant milestone by crossing 100 million followers on X, making him the most followed world leader on the popular social networking platform. Over the past three years, his follower count has seen an impressive increase of approximately 30 million users.

Expressing his gratitude, PM Modi posted on X, "A hundred million on @X! Happy to be on this vibrant medium and cherish the discussion, debate, insights, people’s blessings, constructive criticism, and more."

Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the Prime Minister, stating, “The Modi phenomenon trailblazes on X. Congratulations to PM Shri @narendramodi Ji on crossing the staggering 100 million follower mark on X. A leader whom the world looks up to, Modi Ji remains unchallenged as the most followed global leader. This achievement is a testament not only to his unparalleled popularity in India but also to his towering statesmanship on the global stage.”

PM Modi’s follower count on X far surpasses that of other Indian political leaders. Rahul Gandhi has 26.4 million followers, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has 27.5 million, Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav has 19.9 million, and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has 7.4 million. Even when combined, these opposition leaders’ followers do not match PM Modi’s numbers.

On the global stage, PM Modi also leads in follower count compared to other world leaders like US President Joe Biden, who has 38.1 million followers, Dubai’s ruler HH Sheikh Mohammed with 11.2 million, and Pope Francis with 18.5 million.

A senior functionary highlighted PM Modi's digital influence, saying, “Seeing PM Modi’s popularity on X, world leaders are eager to engage with him on social media because connecting with him significantly boosts their follower base, engagements, views, and reposts. We have seen this recently in Italy and Austria.”

PM Modi's follower count even surpasses those of renowned athletes and celebrities. Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has 64.1 million followers, Brazilian footballer Neymar Jr has 63.6 million, and American basketball player LeBron James has 52.9 million. He also exceeds celebrities like Taylor Swift (95.3 million), Lady Gaga (83.1 million), and Kim Kardashian (75.2 million).

In addition to his presence on X, PM Modi has nearly 25 million subscribers on YouTube and over 91 million followers on Instagram. Since joining X in 2009, he has consistently used the platform for constructive engagement, following and interacting with numerous common citizens, replying to their messages, and never blocking anyone.

A government official noted, “PM Modi has always used this platform organically, without ever resorting to paid promotions or bots. With a blend of insightful and engaging posts on X, the PM has captivated millions around the globe. His rise in the digital sphere underscores his influential presence and ability to resonate with a diverse and dynamic audience.”
