New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi will interact with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh today. The meeting will be held through video conferencing. Because the Election Commission of India has banned all physical rallies till January 22 in view of the growing coronavirus infection. According to an event posted by the BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit on Twitter, the virtual dialogue will begin at 11 am.

This will be PM Modi's first interaction with party workers after the commission announced the schedule for assembly elections in UP last week. According to media reports, PM Modi may direct BJP workers to inform people about the welfare schemes implemented by the party in the state where the party is trying to return to power for the second time in a row in Uttar Pradesh.

On the other hand, opposition parties like Samajwadi Party (SP) have also taken a strong resolve to stop the BJP's electoral chariot. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Congress are also in the fray and have also released their list of candidates for the upcoming elections. While Akhilesh Yadav's SP has announced an alliance with Jayant Chaudhary's Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and other small organisations, congress and BSP are contesting on their own. The BJP has fielded several of its senior leaders, including PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, for campaigning.
