New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to address the closing ceremony of Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam today, April 26,  via video conferencing.

Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam is unique exercise to facilitate a consistent and improved exchange between individuals from diverse regions and lifestyles. It is  an initiative of the 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' program, aims to preserve and promote the rich culture & heritage of Saurashtra and Tamilnadu.

The genesis of the programme lies in the vision of Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi of promoting the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat through initiatives that bring out and help rediscover the age-old links between people in different parts of India. Keeping this focus in mind, the Kashi Tamil Sangamam was organised earlier.
The Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam promotes this aim by highlighting the shared heritage and culture of Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
From the Saurashtra region, numerous people came to Tamil Nadu centuries ago. According to the PMO statement, the Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam gave Saurashtrian Tamils a chance to get back in touch with their roots.

More than 3000 Saurashtrian Tamils arrived in Somnath for the 10-day confluence aboard a special train. The programme started on April 17 and will now end with a ceremony in Somnath on April 26.

The expertise in silk fabric production of the Tamil Saurashtrian people and Gujarat's textile industry are combined in the Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam logo. The Somnath temple, the Saurashtrians' original home, and the Meenakshi temple close to Madurai, where they settled, serve as visual representations of the blending of the two cultures. A young woman representing the fusion of two art forms is pictured dancing and wearing dandiya and bharatanatyam.

The blue colour on the lower side represents the union of the two states with the sea, while the upper tricolour represents the slogan of "Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat." The Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam is available in three languages: Gujarati, the host language; Tamil, the guest language; and English, a universal language, in order to reach a larger audience.
